Subject: Meet former intern, now Brand Specialist at The Row
Name: Samriddi Gurung
Current occupation: Brand Specialist - The Row
Have you ever interned? If so, where? -
Vivienne Westwood, Palmer//Harding, Holly Fulton
However, my very first internships were helping out final year students at University and being a backstage dresser at London Fashion Week.
One thing you wish you knew before starting out in the industry:
It REALLY is as hard as people say it is. I used to think comments like that were just to scare me but you really have to love what you do. However, people in the industry aren’t as scary you think they are.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?:
Hopefully, in a more creative role and be able to work freelance.
One piece of advice to someone who wants to follow in your footsteps:
Show up, be nice and even if you’re not doing what you want to be doing, do your best at it. Try different things within the fashion industry but also have fun.
What advice would you give to someone who has no clue what they want to do?
I still don't 100% know what I want to do. One day I want to be an artist and the next day I want Youtuber! It's such a big industry with so many different career pathways. I have to constantly remind myself to stop overthinking. What you do now doesn’t have to be the career you have when you’re 50. Take one step at a time. It's important to focus on yourself, things you like, things you’re good at and become better at it. (I'm literally just giving myself advice here)
One fun fact about you?
I once went to Paris for the day by myself. By a Coach (Imagine an 8+ hour bus journey but £28 return tickets!). I left London at night, woke up in Paris, went to the Dior Exhibition, ate croissants by La Seine and strolled around vintage boutiques in Pigalle. Best day ever. However, was car sick for about a day after getting back to London. Not taking a coach anytime soon!
Where can people stalk you?
