How did you get into health and fitness?
When I was younger, I lived a very active lifestyle. I was in competitive dance, cheer, and figure skating. When I began high school, I stopped all of these activities and developed bad eating habits. It wasn’t until after high school and the beginning of college that I really wanted to make a change mentally and physically in relation to food and activity. I started working out, nourishing my body properly and it took off from there.
What is one piece of advice for young professionals wanting to stay healthy around their busy schedules?
I think that it’s easy to make excuses that you are busy. Listen, we’re all busy! But if you really want something, you will make the time. You can get up early to workout before your workday starts! It’s a great way to start off your day and sets the tone and energy level for a productive day. If that isn’t an option, find a workout class that you enjoy that you look forward to going to when your schedule permits. As far as food, I believe it’s all about preparation and planning. It’s easy to grab something unhealthy at work if you’re starving, but if you pack snacks and prepare meals you will be set up for success.
What is one piece of advice for someone suffering from anxiety?
I’ve been there, and I understand.Anxiety isn’t easy. I think the best advice is to take care of yourself physically and mentally. Eat well-balanced meals and make sure you are getting enough sleep - that is SO important. When you aren’t taking care of yourself physically, the anxiety can be so much worse.
What would you say to anyone who suffers from intense stress?
I think it is so important to practice self-care to reduce stress. Self-care is different for everyone. Find something that relaxes you, whether it’s a yoga class, meditation, or even baking can be relaxing to some people. Sometimes I’ll take a bath and listen to some music. But whatever you decide to do, I recommend unplugging during that time. Turn off your phone, put away electronics and just focus on yourself and your wellbeing. Another practice I do is saying one positive thing to myself each morning. The way we speak to ourselves matters and if we are kind to ourselves it can reduce stress and anxiety.
What advice do you have for anyone who is unable to separate work and life?
This is a tough one. I think the best advice I can give is that you want to be your best at whatever you do. That means giving your all at work, and being the best you can in your relationships; whether you’re a daughter, girlfriend, wife, instagramor mother. You want to give your full attention to your families and relationships and give your best effort at work. Remember that you cannot be your best if your head is in multiple places at one time.
What advice would you give to someone who doesn't know what they want to do?
Do any of us know what we want to do? I know so many people who majored in one thing in college and aren’t in that profession years later. My advice is to find something that you genuinely enjoy, something that inspires you to get up and work on it each day. If you don’t know that right now, that’s okay! We’re all a work in progress and figuring things out.
What would you say to someone who wants to follow in your footsteps?
If you are committed to something, you can achieve it. It might not happen overnight, but if you are willing to give your goals a high level of focus over a long period of time, you can master anything.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Hopefully having cute babies with my husband and living a life where I am able to help others achieve their goals.
